Frequently asked Questions

What is a water bike?

Essentially, a water bike is exactly what it sounds like-- a bike that rides on the water! Our water bikes combine the athleticism of biking with the versatility of boating, which together create a once-in-a-lifetime experience on the beautiful Tampa Bay.

Will I get wet?

No! Our water bikes are designed to keep riders balanced and dry, so no rider will fall in the water.

How stable are the bikes? Will I flip over?

Our water bikes can safely carry up to 350 pounds while still remaining balanced in the water, and are stable enough that they will not flip over even in high waves. This stability ensures that even riders with no prior biking experience will stay steady and dry!

What time should I get there?

Our water bikes are available to rent from 10:00 AM until sunset every day. We ask that our riders arrive 15 minutes prior to their reservation time if they booked a trip in advance, or at least 1 hour and 15 minutes before sunset if they wanted to walk up and ride.

What should I wear?

Our water bikes are designed to keep riders dry, so there is no need to wear bathing suits or water clothes as you will not get wet. We recommend wearing clothing that you can easily move around in, and that will keep you comfortable and cool in the hot Tampa sun!

What should I bring?

We do not require that our riders bring anything, but we do recommend bringing proper sun protection such as sunscreen, sunglasses, or a hat. For your convenience, each bike is equipped with a life jacket and a dry storage box, which will protect valuables such as car keys, cell phones, or wallets from falling into the water or getting splashed.

Is there somewhere to store my belongings?

Each water bike is equipped with a dry storage box which will keep valuables such as car keys, cell phones, or wallets safe and dry. Larger items such as backpacks or bags are not recommended, but can be stored in our office when necessary.

What are your hours of operations?

10am until sunset

Where can we go?

The only restrictions that we have is that you refrain from going into the port areas and shipping channels. Other than that you are welcome to travel up the Hillsborough River or even out toward Hillsborough Bay as long as you stay within 500 yards of the shoreline.

How fast do they go?

Just about as fast as a kayak!

Are dogs allowed?

Yes!

Are food or drinks allowed aboard?

Yes! As long as it isn't too messy or alcoholic, go for it.

Is it hard?

While our water bikes are human powered, the amount of effort required is entirely up to our riders. Whether you want to pedal quickly to maximize your workout or leisurely glide up the river, you are in control of the speed and physical effort of your ride.

Is fishing or swimming allowed?

Sorry, no. Please stay on the bike at all times.

Are we able to stop anywhere besides back at the Tampa Convention Center?

No, if you need to get off the bike, please come back to the docks and we will assist you

Where can I park?

We are located on The Tampa Riverwalk at the Tampa Convention Center Docks. There is convenient parking all around the convention center including metered parking right at the docks! However, space may be limited due to volume and special events. Other options include street parking anywhere in the city and parking garages (closest parking garage is on the corner of Florida Ave. and Channelside Dr.). For more information about parking, please visit the City of Tampa Parking Division website.

What are the weight and age requirements?

Safety is our first priority, and as such we cannot allow persons weighing more than 300 pounds to ride our water bikes. Our minimum age requirement is 4 years old, although we cannot guarantee that all children that reach this requirement will be able to reach the pedals on the water bikes. If a child is too short to reach the pedals, we do offer the option to have them ride as a passenger in the middle of a tandem water bike. Children under the age of 13 must wear life jackets at all times during the ride. Adults who appear intoxicated or impaired will not be allowed to ride and will forfeit the paid price of the vessel.

Do I need experience?

Not at all. Our well-trained staff will provide you with all of the basic waterway information, necessary water bike instruction, and comprehensive safety information that you will need to have a safe and enjoyable ride.
